Hi! This is Tamir Elterman on behalf of expertvillage.com and in this clip we will be talking about the face off. The face off starts the action at the beginning of the game, each quarter, half and after each goal is scored. Face off, the basic stance. A player begins a face off by gripping the stick with his right hand at the top of the stick, even may be up as high as the plastic of the head. Your left hand grip several inches from the end of the shaft. You want to squat with your feet, shoulder width apart and balance on the balls of your feet. This position will help you maintain balance and power and allow you to move quickly once the whistle blows. The head of the stick should be placed about an inch away from the ball with a narrow part of the head in line with the ball. For the face off, right and left handed players hold the stick the same way. The clamp, this is the most basic move for winning possession. On the whistle, you want to roll your wrists toward the ball and use the head of the stick to trap the ball underneath. Once this move is completed you can use a sweeping motion to pull the ball away from your opponent to one of your wing players to open space.
