How to Establish Discipline & Rewards While Teaching in Thailand

Hi my name is Sean Graham on behalf of Expert Village, sponsored by goturkey.com. What you need to do when talking about discipline in the classroom, and rules, you need to show them that you're going to give them something in return for doing what they should do, really. So what I do, is I create a lot of fun activities within my class. I get a good routine going. The beginning of the class, as I said before, might be karaoke or a warm up game, and we end the class with a game and any other activity that I can think of. Now this gives me a little bit of power in the classroom because kids have fun. A lot of children might not care about the demerit system, but what they will care about is when you take away the fun things that they really enjoy. So get yourself a good list of fun things that you're going to do. Show the kids that that's what they're going to be doing, and then tell them if they forget their books all the time, if they don't do their homework, it they're always late, then there will be no games and no activities for that week. You'll find that most of your children keep in line all of the time because they love doing these things. Ok, thank you.
