Designing the Cover of a Children's Book
Hi! I’m Angela Sage Larsen. On behalf of expertvillage.com, today, we’re going to talk about publishing your own children’s story. Please visit my web site at petalwinkthefairy.com. When it comes to designing the cover of your children’s book, it usually is the case that you can judge a book by its cover. My team and I, that is my husband, my editor, my graphic designer friend, and I, all went to our favorite book store and setup a couple of different designs for the cover of the book so that we could see which one popped out. Here is Petalwink with a big picture of her face. We knew we liked the cloud theme, since it was Petalwink Learns to Fly, then we did one of Petalwink flying. What we settled on was this cover, because as we could see with all the other books when we put that cover out that one really popped out and attracted our attention. Especially because not everyone knows Petalwink yet, it was important that they be immediately attracted to the book and want to know more about it. We noticed that there were definitely some key colors that our eyes are attracted to. The green, the white, and the blue definitely made it pop off the page, so we decided to design a cover specifically around what was going to attract people to the cover. While there was a lot of work to design the other covers, we were really pleased with the one that we ended up with.
