How to Mock-up a Children's Book
Hi! I’m Angela Sage Larsen. On behalf of expertvillage.com, today, we’re going to talk about publishing your own children’s story. Please visit my website at petalwinkthefairy.com. In this segment, we can talk about the mock-up of your children’s storybook. I went from the storyboard, where I had hand sketched the spreads, to actually doing a mock-up of what it would look like page by page, once it’s all together. You can see that I just printed out the story and actually taped it to different places in the page. Then I could move it around depending on where I wanted the illustrations to be and where I wanted the text to be. Once I kind of placed the text, then I was able to find out how I wanted the illustrations to work around the text. A lot of times, especially as you can see in this, what it would show me was exactly what I didn’t want, but because it was just a mock-up it was easy to correct. Here is a piece of tape. I ripped off the text there and moved it up in the page. So, this is a great way not only to help you writing the story but to help you with how the illustrations are going to flow with the story.
