Taping the Pipe & Installing the Switch to Install a Shower Head

Hi! I am Drew Fenn professional home inspector. I am here for Expertvillage.com. Today, we are going to install a shower head and I will show you how and the video is produced by Black Dog Video. You can blackdogvideo.biz on the internet. Applying the teflon tape we always want to go in a clockwise direction because that is the way the screw is going to be going. We don’t want the teflon to come loose later, so we lay it on and we want to go around about three times and as you do you keep the tension on it and go up the thread just a little bit. So, we are around three times now. When you just pull it breaks the tape. Now, we are ready to put the shower head on, you notice the nut swivels so we align it the way we want the switch to be. Here is the switch, this nozzle will come out and have the fixed shower head the bottom one will have the flexible hose on. So what we do is we line it up and we tighten it up and all these threaded connections should go on very easily. We do not want the cross thread. If you start doing it and it stops then you are cross threading it, so you want to make sure in all these connections that we have not cross threaded. So, you should turn it around 4-5 times before it gets snug. If you have yet it probably cross threaded. Now, we are going to take a wrench and tighten this using our crescent wrench I will adjust it to the right diameter for that for that knob and then tighten it, just a couple of turns, you do not have the break thread off. Remember it is compressing on the rubber seal, so we will have good seal without really torquing it a way down.
