So now we're going to go through and look what some of these chords look like on manuscript paper. So if we zoom in down here, here we have four measures, and there's no melody, we're just worrying about the chords right now, and you're a bass player, don't even worry about the melody. So you got E major for a measure, then we have F sharp minor for a measure, B seven for a measure, and then E major for a measure. So we have our one chord, and then we have our two chords, our five chord, and then our one chord. So if we look at our bass, we have our one chord, and we have to start here, and we have to walk four beats there, and we have to walk four beats starting on two, and then walk four beats starting on five, and then get to one again. So we have these different areas where you have to go. We have to go one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, and the notes we put in between, we're going to walk up and down the scale trying to voice lead or lead into these, so I can go, one, two, five, one, again one, two, five, one, one, two, five, one. So I didn't play the exact measures that are written. But you see what I'm saying, and you have these roots where you have to hit on the downbeat, and then you have four beats or the three beats after it, to lead into the next downbeat. And you're really going from here, and then you have here, here, and here. And what you put in between is really up to you. You should stick to the major scale, but again if you do something else that you think sounds good...there's some chromatic notes in there, it still sounded hip. So, you can start building your own bass lines and getting your own bag of tricks worked up as you go through and move through the scale in first position.
