Hi. I'm Allen and welcome to Expert Village. Today I'm going to show you how to build your very own personal computer. So now that we learned about all those components, well where do we get them. Well let me tell you this. Unless you see some really really good deals at some of the retail stores, don't go buy it there. Some places like Frye's and CompUSA, if you can still find one of those stores, they do run good deals every now and then on certain cards like the Ethernet cards and things like that. And also the DVD drives you can usually get relatively cheap. As well as the hard drives. But like main components, like cases and the motherboards, things like that. Your just not going to get a good deal going to a retail chain store unless you really really know how to look for deals. It almost never happens and it's very limited selection what they have. You best deal, places that I use are companies like NewEgg.com, Pricewatch.com which is really a pricing company so you type in what you want and it will a list of the best possible prices. And they have always been good. All their companies that work with them really never had any problems. If you order something wrong, a lot of them are usually pretty good with accepting returns. Maybe a restocking fee here and there, but no big deal. The other site that I really like to use if your not aware of it, are two sites called, one sites called Slickdeals.net I believe it is. And the other one is Fatwallet.com. Now these are just user forum sites that talk about the best deals overall. And they have deals , everything from buying cars or coupon codes for stores and restaurants. But you know they do have a lot of thing for computers. And I'll tell you I've found really really great deals. And a lot of them link back to other companies like Newegg and Clubit.com. I just got two gigabytes of memory at twenty-five dollars after mail in rebate. Absolutely insane. And yes I did get the rebate. The best deals are really found on those sites. And you can find more information on those sites, not only the deals but also what people think about the deals. And some of them are you know novice users, but some of them are you know pro's that will really give you insight so, is this a good deal, is this a bad deal. So my recommendation is go check out those sites. Of course watch your papers for like the cd drives and the hard drives things like that and other components. But really, your going to get the best deal online. Also little inside secret. If your a student, you can get some student discounts on hardware. So if you go on like Google or one of those sites you can always type in whatever hardware your looking for and you know comma academic discount. Things like that or check with your school store. They usually don't do hardware as much as they do software. But it's definitely another option. One of those sites you can check out with them is journeyed I believe it is .com. Of course I'll check that before I put up the information for you. And also Academic superstore which is another really big one. So you know, know all your options out there. Save as much money as possible. A big thing also is you don't always have to buy the pretty box, you can always look at OEM boxes which is just, or like the white boxes. Where just the software and the piece of hardware comes in it. Maybe not as long as a warranty. But it's really really a good way to do that. So hey, look for that, look for cash back options either on cards or through websites and of course look for mail in rebates. And that's really where you should go, of course the internet and buy your components. So we discussed hardware, but what about software. You're going to need software to run your system. Now depending on what you want to do, obviously if your a little bit more advanced your going to know if you want to run Windows, either XP or Vista or Linux one of those things. So obviously unlike buying a system in a store your going to have to purchase the operating system. Now sometimes you can get OEM versions of the operating system from certain sites and things like that, but you really need to decide what you want to run and what you want to do. Now even though Vista has been out for a while I've still decided to run XP because I like it better. I've used Vista on a couple things, just don't like it. So that's going to be something that you want to figure out. And what version you need things like that. Depending on what you want to do. You've got the Home versions or the Pro versions things like that. So you've got to do some research before you pick up that software and see how much you really want to spend. And what those different versions do in order to spend that money. Are you going to get what you really need. So that's one thing. Software that comes with the drives usually is like, the Maxtor drives at least come with MaxBlast and that will copy a lot of the hardware or the software stuff onto your drive. It's really good for copying and formatting the thing, runs off a cd so it's really really good. Now overall that's pretty much all your going to need to really get your system at least running into Windows. And it also the boards come with sometimes cd's that update things and their own drivers and utilities and things like that. So basically that's all the stuff your going to need besides any other setup stuff or like extra cards you know for audio or for video. And besides that things that your really going to want to pick up are something like a antivirus software and maybe a spyware protection software just to run it on your system so you have no problems when you first start up. And of course when you get going forget IE, download Mozilla Firefox. Better way to go. Stop worrying and you know don't worry so much about pop ups anymore. So that's pretty much the software thing. Again purchasing software you know you can go on Ebay probably, sometimes the stuff is not legit so you've got to really check that stuff out. But your best deal is really looking at these online retailers like Newegg and Clubit and all those places. Check out Price watch as I mentioned with the hardware things. Also for the students out there or if someone knows a student, I didn't tell you that you know. Maybe you can get the student to buy it for you. They can go out and purchase it. Usually at a pretty big discount. The academic versions of the software which are almost always the same as the normal retail versions. So check those all out. I hope that helps with some software insight for you for building your own personal PC.
