Measures 7-8 for Playing a Fake Book Melody in G Major

Now we're going to take a look at measures seven and eight, and if we zoom over here, we have this nice really easy melody here. Five, and then it goes down to three, and what's important to know is is this little squiggly line here, that's indicated as a gliss, and you'll see it written like this, going into a note. But we'll just erase that right now. So we have this five, and it slides down to a three. And I'll show you what that looks like. What a gliss is is you take your first note, here's our five, and here's our three, and you just hit all the notes chromatically to get down there. So say we're going five to two, we go like this, so you're hitting all the notes in between really fast, as fast as you can. Then you get that sliding type sound going on. And then when you put these two chords under it, we have C major which is the chord we learned last, and then F major was the second chord we learned, so we have... see how pretty that sounds, it's nice, right? So when we put it with the beginning of that line... really nice and you can hear how that effect gives it a nice little tinge to it. So we have this nice, we can play our first couple barres now. And we'll go into our last couple of measures in just a second.
