Houses & Hotels in Monopoly the Board Game
The biggest problem that most beginners make is when it comes to houses and hotels and buying too fast. If you cannot afford to buy a house or hotel, do not sell as is in order to develop and never get yourself into debt in order to develop. You can make a lot of money when players land on property that has been developed. However, players will sometimes go around the board for what sometimes seems like forever without landing on your property. Don’t forget that you must develop evenly. This means that before you begin on that second row of houses, each piece of property in a color group must have one house on it. You can develop in whatever order you see fit but you cannot have three houses on one piece of property and none on another. Do not let another player do this. If the bank runs out of houses or hotels, players wishing to develop must wait for someone to sell their buildings back to the bank. This is a sneaky strategy that can be employed by a player. By building enough houses on different properties but the bank runs out, opponents who have not yet been able to afford development will not be able to until you have either sold your houses back or bought hotels. This strategy should be seriously considered when an opponent owns a lot of the more expensive color groups.
