Controlling Color Groups in Monopoly the Board Game
Controlling color groups is another important part in being successful in this game. You do not want another opponent to gain control in an entire color group. This is usually where games are won or less. It should be obvious to the players that once someone owns an entire color group, they can begin putting houses and hotels on this property. This is when things can begin to get expensive. Also don’t forget that by simply owning a color group the rent on these spaces are doubled even if one or more of the properties are not mortgaged. There is nothing a player can do if a player lands on property and decides to buy but if property is up for auction, they should try to make sure that the opponent cannot begin development. Many assume that this is only important for more expensive properties but games have been won with Baltic Avenue.
