How to Caulk & Paint Around Door Trim
Today we are replacing the trim around a front door, in fact, which is door trim. We’re to the point now where we need to caulk and paint it. What you want to do is get some interior latex silicone - or just painter’s caulk - cut off the end and everything, and get yourself a wet rag because you are going to make a mess. And you just cut the end of the bevel, and just go along and caulk it. If you’re not real good at it and you leave little mounds of caulking, you just take your finger and wipe down it, and then wipe it off on the rag and go along it and do that, it’ll come out just fine.
And then we would also need to float where we cut back on the old built up paint. Just get yourself some sheet rock mud and a trowel. And wipe it on there and just smooth it out like that, to where it’s to about the same height as the old paint. And after this dries, you just want to sand off the little edges and sand it real smooth so you can prime and paint it. And that’s how you would caulk and paint around the new trim of your front door.
