How to Texture Hair with Thinning Scissors: Part 1

Hi, I'm Chris Faircloth, Artistic Director and co-owner of Salon Teez. For Expert Village, this is how to trim women's hair. We can create a lot of texture with the thirty-two teeth blending shear. A lot of times we won't have the five teeth or the seven teeth notching shear that creates pieces in the hair but we can get the same effect by simply combing the hair in a horizontal position, or a vertical depending on if you're wanting to create elongation, using the bottom blade, where the bottom blade is on the bottom of the hair. And now we're simply weaving the hair out to create our five or seven notch kind of thing and I'll just continue cutting that hair right where it lives until all of that hair is gone. What I've essentially done is left the longer hair here where I've got the shorter hair that I've just cut, even though I used the thirty-two teeth shear, I get the same effect that I would get as if I used a five teeth or seven teeth type of shear. By doing that, it just creates some nice negative and positive spaces and also gives us some movement and some volume into the head form.
