Yeah, a real fighter in the street, ring or octagon will never drop their hands for a low block. This sounds like real kung fu.

Wow, I had never heard of never dropping the hands. That's a good idea. Thanks! :)

Low Kick Block for Basic Southern Shaolin Kung Fu Fighting Style

Hi! My name is Julio Anta from Anta’s Fitness & Self Defense in Miami, Florida. My website is www.antakungfu.com. As we continue with Southern Kung Fu, I am going to show you how we block low kicks. Any kick from the stomach down, we do not believe in dropping our hand because if he is fast, especially with his legs, he goes quick, comes around, hits me in the head or fakes low…. punches me in the face. You know it is very dangerous to drop your hands. So what do we do? From any stance, I can be in an American kick boxer fighting stance, I can be in a half tiger kung fu stance, any stance, very simple. We bring our leg tight to protect our groin area, lift up and come back down fast. But we can’t leave it up. You leave it up then they can sweep you, take you down. So if somebody throws to low kick and usually Thai boxers block here because they are not allowed to hit the groin and they train their shins. Well we attack the groin a lot. What we do is somebody throws a low kick or a stomach kick we block here. We continue, we can keep on fighting non-stop to our front stance or any stance. So again, it is how fast you can bring that leg up. Never drop your hand in Southern Kung Fu styles, lift tight and back. It has got to be tight. If you leave a slight opening here, they could slip in. So you have got to tighten it up and bring it down.
