Acupuncture Meridians: Free Online Guide to Alternative Medical Treatments

Acupuncture certainly has a language of its own. And some terms like meridians or chi don’t make much sense to most of us Westerners. Acupuncture looks at the whole body and divides it up into five systems; and these systems cover all human physiology. The Western medicine uses systems like the endocrine system, the nervous system and they just cover the same territory and describe it in a different way. Acupuncture have what’s called meridians and these are pathways that travel from the deep organs that are related to the systems like the heart system has the heart meridian that travels from the heart out to the extremities. Most meridians can be accessed pretty easily at points below the elbows and below the knees. They become more closer to the surface as you get closer to the extremities. As you know your sense of touch also becomes more sensitive as you get closer to the fingertips. The Chinese saw this as the Chi, or the body’s energy being closer to the surface.
