Service Dog Training to Sit & Stay on Command

Hi, I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer and behaviorist for Expert Village. Today we're working with Bear. Remember earlier in basic training we worked on a basic sit and stay? In advanced training, we will want to do a really long sit and stay. And I'm talking thirty, forty yards away. So, Bear, sit. Very good boy! Now in the advanced training remember we gradually want to build up to this. So I put Bear in a sit, good boy. And the stay command, uh uh. Let's try that again. Good sit, very, very good sit. Stay. And finish with a sit. Very, very, very good job! You notice I threw the hand in as a scratch as a distraction. He did very, very good. He was focused on the job at hand, and that's really what it's all about. I was really getting a lot of control out of the dog. Really get them focused on you. So Bear did a very good job. Thanks for helping us out Bear. I'm Jim Leske, and you're watching Expert Village.
