The History of Acupuncture: Free Online Guide to Alternative Medical Treatments

First, acupuncture has a really interesting history. It’s been around longer than anybody could say for certain. Earliest evidence of acupuncture is actually in the northern Alps in Italy, they found a body that was frozen in the ice that had the skin still intact, and they found tattoos that represent currently used acupuncture points. Also in France, they found cave paintings that have the meridians drawn on the body. These are all prehistoric, and the most current lineage of acupuncture all comes from China. There was bone and stone type needles found in old tombs, and their oldest surviving text are about twenty five hundred years old and they actually talk about texts that are no longer surviving that are older than that. Modern acupunctures based on these acupuncture checks that are about twenty five hundred years old, and it’s just been a continuous lineage through different schools through China. Modern acupuncture actually is making a lot of advances in Japan these days. They have taken these texts and continued to refine them.
