Hi I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village. And today we're going to be learning how to play a basic Jazz drum beat. So now that we kind of realized what the Snare drum's purpose or once again lack of purpose really in Jazz music. We're going to practice playing the Snare drum on different beats within the measure. And really show you how it does become a decoration or the cherry on top as opposed to the main thing, you know, on Rock beat. On beat two and four that's where everybody bob's their heads or claps their hands with the Snare drum. Not in Jazz music. O.k. So What I'm going to do is, I'm just going to play, going to play my right pattern on the right cymbal and I'll play the High Hat pattern as well on tune four with my foot. And then we're just going to throw in the Snare drum on just different areas and really show you how it would work in the context of the Jazz pattern. So here we go. Ready? So as you can see the Snare drum, I wasn't playing it very loud and that's kind of on purpose because it's not the focus. O.k. And so, but let's not say that you can't play it loud. But right there it's more tasteful and stuff like that. So that's kind of where the Snare drum is. So practice playing the Snare drum like you did the Kick drum on different beats. And get used to once again playing that different pattern we're not used to playing that with our right hand. And then the High Hat and then adding the left hand on the Snare drum to get used to playing those patterns together. Because in Jazz music unlike Rock music every limb is doing something completely different most of the time. And it's pretty tough. Jazz is a tough genre to play. So practice playing that and we're going to take a look at what we're going from here with our next step. O.k.
