Summary: Learn tips on how a border collie herds away from you in this free video clip on dog herding and pet training.
I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer with Expert Village. Today we're talking about herding. This specific command is called away me which you will be using to either get the flock out into the field in the morning as an example or if the command, let's say if there was something suspicious off to one side of you, you would want to get the flock and the dog to get them away from you. So this command is very simple, it's called away me which means get the herd away. The way we start off with the basics of training that, in this case we're going to use Bear as our goat and we're just going to use a simple tennis ball and we're going to get Bear to chase the ball and we're training Tess to do the away me command. So like getting association in there first, we'll get him to drop the ball, okay, and you see Tess is ready to go to work and the command is away me, very very very very good and what we build from there and as we repetition, repetition is what's going to get you there and pretty soon it becomes the command they understand it completely different from the other three we talked about. So that's away me, I'm Jim Leske and we'll be back with our next herding secret which is called to me.
