History of Border Collies

Okay, good morning, my name is Jim Leske. I'm an animal trainer with Expert Village and today we are talking about border collies and herding. Specifically, we are going to talk a little bit now about the history of a border collie. Originally, they were born and bred in Scotland and England on farms and ranches for herding sheep and goats, primarily. They are very, very physical dogs; very intelligent and there's a particular language that does go with that. But, you don't have to utilize that language, you can just do the simple stuff of "left, right, away, to me, away me," and so on and so forth. They are very, very fast dogs and the history of the border collie goes way back into the 1800s so these guys have been herding farm and ranch animals for quite some time. They are also good at protecting the flock. So, with that, that wraps us up. I'm Jim Leske with Expert Village, and I'll be back with more herding in just a minute.
