Tips on Border Collie Herding

Good morning, my name is Jim Leske. I've been training animals for about ten years. I'm with Expert Village and our topic today is going to be herding. Tess is the black and white border collie. These dogs thrive on both mental and physical stimulation. The problem is is that a lot of people don't give them enough exercise. So, I often hear "let's take them down to the ranch, let's let them herd some goats and sheep and let them do what comes instinctively." The problem is is that if you can't continue to provide that stimulation, they get bored and start herding things like trucks and buses and delivery trucks and stuff like that. So we are going to try to put a little positive stimulation on Tess today. Alright, Bear! Now we are going to let Tess herd dogs chasing their toys. So, you ready? Very good! Drop! Drop! Drop! Bear, drop! Good boy! Very good! Watch them, watch them. Very good, very good.
