Hi! My name is Gretchen Brown. I have been teaching conformation training and handling professionally for 20 some odd years. I am coming today on behalf of expertvillage.com to teach you how to train and show your show dog. To set your dog for the show ring loop your little finger through the dog’s collar and rest the dog’s head in the your hand. Reach down, pick up the dog’s left foot with your left hand, set it directly beneath the wither, switch hands, just reach down and pick up the dog’s right foot with your right hand. When you go to set the rear, first get the collar up over the Adam’s apple behind the ears. Maintain contact, stop, maintain contact. If the dog moves, go back and reset. Maintain contact down the top line, reach underneath, pick up the dog’s left rear and pick up the dog’s right rear. You want the hocks of the dog which are right here 90 degrees to the ground. Do not expect your dog to set perfectly at all times, he will not. Once you get him set, tell him he is good, praise him. If he moves go back and reset. I hope I have been of some help to you this afternoon. You can contact me through the web site commanddogtraining.com. We run classes every Wednesday night and we are based out at Fort Lauderdale. Thank you.
