Performance Exhaust Systems: Expanding Pipe

Hi I'm Doug. I work with twenty great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkins Custom Hot Rods, and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. Dave is expanding here the diameter of the muffler so the pipe fits better. You saw him with a cone on the ground. He gave it a good whack there to mushroom out just the very end of the pipe to make it slide in more easily. So Dave has got the pipe fit virtually the way he wants it, he's going to do little adjustments to get it just right. And we're trying to put these enormous mufflers on the car. We bought some expensive Flow Master Brand mufflers that offer real good performance characteristics, but the work order on this one says, "The customer wants the car quiet like his Denali." Well, we're not going to be able to accomplish that if we put six mufflers in here because of the power this engine is putting out. But this muffler is kind of the industry standard to give us the quietest we can, but it's going to be hard to get that entire muffler in there. That's a monster muffler and it's going to be hard to get that in with the entire pipe we got going on.
