Hi! I’m Monica and the last carpal tunnel exercise I’m going to show you is another tendon gliding exercise. This actually involves a little bit of coordination, so you might not be able to get it right at first. It involves kind of combining all the motions that we previously did. So let me show you what it is. What you are going to do is you are going to start your hand nice and straight like this and then you are slowly going to bend your fingers down and up. Usually, this is called waves and that is just because it kind of looks like a wave when you are doing it. Again, you’re going to start at the top and start bending and curling your fingers down. Once you are down here you are in that loose fist position. You are going to start straightening your finger down and straightening your fingers back up. Again, this type of nice motion. You can also, instead of going down this way you can do the opposite, come back up like this. So starting with your fingers straight, having them come down slowly bending, back on up to straight. This position with your fingers for the wave.
Thank you! These exercises do seem to be helping. I did them yesterday and didn't have any symptoms today. What I want to know, though, is how many reps to do for each of the exercises. And how many times per day to do them, and whether any particular times of day are better than others. Also, it would be cool to see some "Dont's". Ive noticed that there are certain motions that bother my hands like twisting the cap off a milk bottle, or making a tight fist, lifting a full water pitcher by its handle, and I have been trying to identify and avoid these, but I dont know what they all are. Ive read mixed messages about exercises, and have done some exercises that seemed to make it worse. So I think maybe the problem is that some of the exercises are not good, while others do help. If its not much trouble, perhaps you could do another video debunking bad exercises and describing what motions to avoid? It sure would be helpful.
