Hello, I'm Donna Beth Joy Shapiro on behalf of ExpertVillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to iron a shirt. In this clip, we are going to steam this man's polo shirt. It's half cotton, half polyester, but you could still steam it. It's important to button up so that you can get as many wrinkles out as possible. Arrange it nicely on the hanger and then just take your steamer head and just run it down the front. If you've had your steamer on for a while, you are going to notice that the hose is getting really, really hot (like, it's too hot even for me to hold on to). So you want to be really careful about that. You want to be really careful about where you use your steamer. The steam could peel wallpaper. It can cause mildew and all sorts of moisture problems if you sort of leave it and you've got a low ceiling or if you've got it against the wall like that. So, you should never leave a steamer unattended, anyway. If you are done using it, unplug it. And of course, if you've got children in your house, you want to make sure that they are nowhere near this thing. A steamer is just as dangerous as a hot iron. You can definitely get third degree burns from a steamer. So, those wrinkles are coming out nicely. There we go. I would avoid putting it directly on the fabric so that you don't do what I just did (which is, get a water spot on it). Of course, it's going to dry, but it's easier not to get them to begin with. And again, any gargling that you hear is the steamer. If your steamer is not gargling, it's probably not on. There you go. It's important to steam a shirt like this because it is so loose and it is going to hang clear of the body. Even though you want to be comfortable, you still want to be looking good when you go out in this shirt. There you go. It looks a lot better. I never would have tried to iron this shirt. Ironing this shirt would have stretched it out. You could iron it, but what ironing does is that it stretches fabric. So, if I had put an iron to this shirt, it would quickly be misshapen. It's ready to put on now. Thanks for watching.
