How to Iron a Dress Shirt Front

Hello, I'm Donna Beth Joy Shapiro on behalf of ExpertVillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to iron a shirt. In this clip, we are going to talk about how to iron the front of a man's dress shirt. I always start on the side with the buttons. Spray some starch and I start right up here. You do not want to iron over the buttons. You don't want to scratch the sole plate of your iron. You don't want to melt the buttons. Alright, this is going to get covered with the other side of the shirt, but I like to do the best that I can. Again, I don't really worry about the bottom too much since it gets tucked in. It may take you, depending on the size of your ironing board, and the size of the man, three passes because you need to make sure that you get up into this corner...to get up right into that very top of that corner. There you go; just like that. You also want to make sure that you've got the back pulled down around the rounded part of the ironing board. Sometimes, if you're not careful it will get bunched up and you are going to wind up wrinkling the back of the shirt. There you go. Now, you notice that I have very little starch sprayed on this shirt, and yet the wrinkles are coming out very easily. It's the steam iron, and I haven't even used the burst of steam. It's just what a steam iron does. So again, if you've never tried the steam feature on your iron, give it a try. You're not going to go back to dry ironing. Thanks for watching.
