How to Iron Dress Shirt Backs

Hello, I'm Donna Beth Joy Shapiro on behalf of ExpertVillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to iron a shirt. In this clip, we are going to iron the back of a man's cotton dress shirt. Spray your starch. You'll notice that most of them have pleats up to the yoke. Just do the best you can; you are never going to get the fabric completely flat around it. You just want to...the bottom is going to get tucked in. I don't usually worry about trying to get all the wrinkles out down there. Some of you may feel differently about it. Usually you can get a man's dress shirt, the back of it, done in about three passes. If you've got a bigger ironing board or a wider ironing board, maybe you can do it in about two. And it looks like this one is going to take four. I guess it depends on the size of the man; big man, the shirts going to take longer. I don't worry about getting the hem completely flat. Again, it's going to get tucked in. I think a lot of people don't like to iron because (particularly men's dress shirts) there are a lot of piece parts to it. Like everything else, doing it right requires some effort and some time. But, I don't know, there's nothing quite as satisfying as a freshly ironed men's dress shirt. Get all that starch dried up.
