The Mounted Position in Jiu Jitsu
Hi! This is Don Daly representing expertvillage.com, and in this clip, we’re going to demonstrate the mounted position. Best position to be in, mounted position; meaning I’m mounting on top of him, classic street fight. You want to be on top of the guy. Knees up in the armpits, hips low, keeping my balance. From here, street fight, I can hit. He tries to hit me. He can’t reach. My reach is much better. I can strike, I can elbow. We want to keep the knees up under his armpits. If he tries to push down and pushes his elbows in. He’s pushing, pushing trying to get his elbows in. We come under and we just lift the arm up. Lift the arm up. Keep it under the armpits. In this mounted position, there’s certain submissions we can go to in this mounted position. One is I have it mounted, my knees are high, my weight’s low. I push an arm across. I start to push it across his neck and I pressure it with my chest. Keep the pressure so he can’t his arm away, I want to keep it here. So as I push he turns. He starts to turn away from me. When he turns I don’t keep my knees locked here. If I keep them locked and he turns, I get off balance and I get rolled over. As I pressure his arm, I’m pushing in here and he turns to turn away. I put my foot here in his hip, knee is here, foot in the back. Keeps his mounted. I’m still in control of balance. Still pressure in his arm come from behind the head. We grab the wrist, hold tight. Now I don’t have to pressure so much, I can just pull across here. If we want to choke him we take this hand, we bring it through here right to the side of his neck and I all I do is push down and pull up and he chokes. So I have his wrist here, we come through here, push and pull. Again, come from under the neck, grab his wrist here, come through the hole, side of the neck, push down, pull up and chokes.
