Placing an English Saddle on a Horse

Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my techniques to saddling a horse with an English saddle. Now that we have our saddle pads on, we are going to place the English saddle on to her back. So we are going to pick up our saddle, we are going to make sure that we approach the horse from the left side to put the saddle on. So we are going to lift it up and we are going to very gently place the saddle on her back. We would never want to drop it or slam it onto her back because it could startle her or make her hate being saddled and she could start to get a little cranky about it. Once we have it on there, we are going to take the straps of our saddle pad and we are going to sip it through the first billet strap here underneath the saddle. So it will just keep our pad in place and keep it from moving underneath us. I am just going to walk around to her other side and make sure I walk far enough away, that she won't get startled and kick me. Going to go around to the other side and make sure her pads are nice and straight on this side as well. We are just going to do the same thing. Take that little strap and put it through the first billet strap on the saddle. Now we have our saddle properly placed on our horse.
