Hi! I am Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my techniques to saddling a horse with an English saddle. Before we put on the saddle, we are going to put on our saddle pads. So we are going to start here with our square saddle pad. So we are going to put this on and fit it right on top of her wither which is the top of her shoulders. We are just going to slide it back a little bit so that it is in the proper place. We want to slide it back so that we make sure that we smooth the hair in the proper direction. Otherwise, it will be a little uncomfortable for the horse if we have the hair brushing the wrong way. So you want your saddle pad to go right on top of the wither which is right at the top of the shoulder and this should have some straps on it where the saddle will hook into. This is where the girth would go so you want that pretty even with the back of the shoulder right here. So that is the first pad we are going to put on. Then we are going to put on a regular English pad on top of that. Slide everything forward and make sure it is in the right place. This just gives a little more cushioning so that the horse has a little bit more comfort on its back. So those are how you will put on a saddle pad.
