Parts of an English Saddle

Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my technique to saddling a horse with an English saddle. I am going to go over some of the basic parts of an English saddle. So this is our English saddle right here. This front part up here is called the panel and the back part here is called the cantel. Of course , we have the part here in the middle which is the seat. Some English saddles have this cushy part here which is called the knee roll; some will, some won't. This is called the saddle skirt and underneath you have the saddle flap and the billet straps which is what you hook your girth to. Then of course you have the stirrup leathers and the stirrup irons which are on the saddle right here. If you go up here, we have the buckle that holds the stirrup in place where you can adjust the length of the stirrup properly. If you flip to the underneath part, this is the tree of the saddle right here. This is what sits on the horse's back and this is something that you want to ensure that is properly fitted to your horse so that you horse will be comfortable when you ride it. So those are some of the basic parts of an English saddle.
