Sivananda Yoga Pinca-Mayurasana (Feathered Peacock) Pose

A variation of headstand is Pinca-Mayurasana, Feathered Peacock. It's a beautiful, beautiful inversion. But you're doing it on your forearms, so it's like a beautiful forearm inversion, right there. So I'm going to have Sue demonstrating this for us today. First, can I have you come into Child Pose. Along with headstand, you want to start your inversions sitting in Child Pose. Taking that brief moment, to come to the breath, calm, and steady yourself. And bring in the elbows underneath, measuring off, bringing the hands straight forward. Now in headstand, you're bringing your hands into your tripod. With Pinca-Mayurasana, your arms are straight out. Perfect. Now tuck in your toes, straighten the legs out. Notice how she's keeping her head straight up, looking forward. This is a very important part of Pinca-Mayurasana. Now she is going literally kick up, legs straight up, beautiful. Slight back bend. Now if you're going to be doing Scorpion Pose, you have a full back bend. Very slowly, lower down. Lower down into Child Pose, and come back to your breath.
