Hi! My name is Paige. You can see my website at www.porchproductions.net. Today we’re talking about troubleshooting on your mini DV camcorder. Suppose you turn on your camcorder and it’s not recording. The first thing you want to do is to make sure you have some sort of power supply that works. The other thing you want to make sure is that your camera is set to camera and not VCR or play. It won’t record if it’s in this setting, that’s very important. You want to make sure if your lens cap is off. Some camcorders won’t shoot or record rather if the lens cap is on. You’ll know it’s on because you can look or it may be black. You also want to make sure that you have pressed your red recording button and that it’s not on standby or lock. A lot of camcorders will have that. There is generally 2 different buttons. For record, you’ll have one here by your battery or you may have one here on your handles. This is for using low angles. So, you want to make sure that you’re not hitting one or the other and not getting confused there. You want to make sure that you have a videotape actually inserted into your mini DV cassette holder, and that it’s inserted in the correct way. Those are the ways you can troubleshoot if you’re not being able to record on your camcorder. If you’ve done all those steps; you’re powered on; you’re not locked up; you’re in camera and not VCR play; and your lens cap hood is off. Then you may want to refer to your internet or call where you bought your camera before and find out where you can get your machine service and take it in and have them look at it.
