How to do a Final Tune Test on a Drum

Hi, I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village and today I'm going to show you how to change your drum head and tune the drum. So once you get all the lugs, once you go around all, the whole entire drum and get the lugs at the same pitch. What you want to do next is you want to hit the drum and see if it's your sound you're looking for. Just because you have the lugs at the same pitch doesn't necessarily mean that's what you want your snare drum to sound like. So in this step, I'm going to play the drum and make sure it is what I want. So once you get finished hitting it, you can determine whether it's the sound you're looking for or not. I like that sound, I think we're right on. You can hear the snares on the bottom of the, of the snare drum nicely. And it's not too high of a pitch, it's not too low. It works for me, a little ringy for my tastes. So at this point there are a couple things you can do. You might like a ringy snare drum, so if that's the case you're done. I like a little bit more of a drier sounding snare drum. So what you can do, there's a few things. You get some duck tape, which is the most common thing to do, and I just have a piece right here. And what you want to do is kind of fold it and put like just one little crease in it. And then I just stick it over here. Okay, and you don't want to put it on this side because that's where you're playing. So this is pretty much out of your way. And then you can hear it's a lot drier. Still has a little bit of a ring, which is okay with me. I like that, but it's just not tinny ringing. So it looks like I'm done and I'm ready for the show. So on behalf of Expert Village, I am Shaun Schaefer. Thank you for watching, and we will see you next time.
