How to Check for Duct Loss from Air Conditioning Units

Hi, My names Joshua Lindsey with CFM Building Science Solutions, on behalf of Expert Village, we are going to do a duct test in this house. I'm going to show you real quick why our loss is less in this house. If you look right up there at the corner of our return its got some white putty looking stuff, the HVAC guys call it "spooge". Nothing fancy about it, it seals up all the holes. You're going to want to see that in all your registers, that they've sealed that up real good. You're also going to want to see that around your air conditioning unit, of which we can't see in this house. But, in all the areas that your duct work comes in your air conditioning unit you want to see that spooge, you want to know that that's sealed up really well in there. Especially when your unit inside the garage, those are the hardest ones to seal. So look around that, make sure you can run your hand up and down that and feel if the cold air's coming out. If it is, call your HVAC guy back and say "C'mon, C?mon, throw some spooge on this." " I need this sealed up real nice, or some tape." They've got different things that they can put on there to seal that up. Very Important! That is affecting the efficiency of your home.
