Hi this is Julia Karch for Expert Village.com. In this video series we will be talking about still life drawing for beginners. In this section we are going to be talking about shading and I’ve reduced the still life to just the spaghetti squash. There is a darker line here and darker line here. Everything is running laterally. The shadow at the bottom is going to give it the most dimensions. But the lightest part is up here. So, let’s just say I get an outline of the squash here not being too concerned with anything that is exact. I know that there is a heavier line at the bottom. Shading with ink is a little more difficult. It is going to require a little more subtlety and this is definitely an object that I want to build on as lightly as possibly with each plane. There is a plane here, plane there. Keeping all that in mind making sections of it darker in the direction that lines are moving in the object. Shading is an indication of the volume of the object as other internal lines but really it is a little bit more challenging to work with just black and white which is what we are working with now, the pen and the ink. For instance, this little glitch here, you make that slightly a bit darker as a notation to yourself and you might go back to it later. Same with this one here. You might make a glitch or a line mark and move back. All the while not really being concerned with what’s being depicted exactly as in capturing what you see in front of you.
