Table Manners & Etiquette for Silverware

Hi! I am Marianne, and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I will be discussing dining etiquette. This topic is on the proper placement of your silverware. When you do begin eating, they typically will serve the bread first, so your butter knife is on the outside and the next utensil to be used will be your salad fork. The fork that is closest to your plate is used for your entrée. And you have to the right side of your plate; you have the soup spoon, and that is also a dish that is served prior to your meal. You will be using that first and then your knife to cut any meats for your entrée. That is the proper placement of your utensils. The last utensil to mention is your dessert spoon, which is typically brought to you with the dessert should you choose to have one.
