How to Play Scales in the Linear Method on Guitar

Hello, this is Joe Wiles with the Rock in Rock Conservatory on behalf Expert Village we just went over our C major or A minor pentatonic scale. In this segment we are going to talk about the linear approach to that scale. It is the easiest approach and the one that you're going to want to exercise first. It basically goes from the bottom of the scale, the lowest note all the way through the scale to the top note and then back down. Let's go to the guitar. Now remember keep your pick moving in a down up alternate picking fashion. I'm not going to name the strings as we go along. I'm just going to name the frets and we're going to go progressively across the strings up and then back down to the strings. We are going to go like this. (playing guitar) Five eight five seven five seven five seven five A five A, now in the practice segment we are going to count four beats and start back down the scale. It sounds like this, A five A five seven five seven five seven five A five. In the next segment we are going to set our metronome on the sixty beats per minute and we are going to go through the linear method of the C major pentatonic scale, I'll see you there.
