How to Structure Pawns in a Chess Game

Pawn structure: Pawn structure is a very important part of the game. The most important thing that you could ever have or the best situation with a pawn is to have a pass pawn. A pass pawn basically is a pawn which is not impeded between where it is now in the back row by any enemy piece. Remember when it gets to the back row it queens. Now in this situation here both of these pawns, assuming there was nothing else there would be pass pawns because they are both clear of any other pawn. The next thing I want to discuss is pawn duos. Duos are essentially pawns next to each other. This is believed to be very strong because the pawns can defend each other. Remember that the pawn moves forward but if this pawn is taken it could be recaptured sideways. The next thing is something to avoid which is a so called backward pawn. Backward pawns tend to get attacked. This example here, this would be a backward pawn. It hasn't got the other pawns around it to defend it so it could be in trouble and the final thing in this section is the pawn chain. The pawn chain is regarded as a very good way to defend your pawns, a desirable structure because obviously the pawns are defending each other and the only pawn really in the chain that can be attacked is this one.
