How to Choose Chess Material

Material. Obviously, to have more material, that is more pieces than your opponent, is a desirable situation. Therefore, be very careful that you never lose any material unnecessarily. Even a pawn, a single pawn advantage at the end of the game can be very, very critical. If you do make sacrifices, and so on, which can occur during the game, be absolutely sure that it is fully justified before you do it. Now if you are ahead on material, the concept is that you should keep the game as simple as possible and exchange off, exchange pieces so by the time you reach the end of the game, your slim material advantage will now be much more significant. Conversely, if you are down in material, try to exchange as little as possible.
