Stage Presence for Female Singers
Hi! I am Erica Lane, I am with Expert Village and I am talking about how to train the female voice. I want to talk about stage presence. Whenever you are performing on stage you not only need to be aware of your facial expression, but you need to actually own the whole stage. It is very important to not feel insecure whenever you are singing a song especially it will show in your body if you are feeling insecure. A lot of people when they are singing they will even have good facial expression and they will really be projecting outward and singing the correct notes and phrasing, but their body would be limp, it is very important that when you are singing not only have a good posture that I told you about before, but to really have that commanding presence. Because when you have a commanding presence and you feel like the stage is yours and that you are the only person on stage and then you are changing the world, your body has got to show it when you are singing a song or people are not going to be able to connect with you. So, I am going to sing Amazing Grace I am going to sing it with a limp body… I felt wimpy when I was just singing. I don’t want to feel wimpy when I am singing, I want to feel like I know what I am talking about like I feel what I am singing is important to me so that I can get a message across to you. So, I am going to use my body to sing this time with a more commanding presence and I am going to have overall good stage presence, so that I can really get the message across… Now notice that I did not overuse my hands, I did not flail them around to sing. I just did what was comfortable for myself. For me personally, I don’t move around a whole lot when I sing, but I still have the commanding presence and a sense of power with my whole body whenever I am singing. So, make sure that when you are singing even if you are not a person to move your arms a lot, that’s okay. Even if you want to walk around just make sure you do not pace back and forth and makes you look nervous. Stay on your ground be confident about what you are doing, people are going to catch that and they are going to love it.
