Hello, I’m Brian on behalf of expertvillage.com. On the subject of fire safety, there are several things that should never be disposed of in the fire. That’s essentially everything with the exception of small bits of paper, cardboard, and leftover food. Clearly something along these lines here. Propane bottle, even when it is empty it has residual propane gas in it, and will contain the pressure. Once it reaches a certain point this will explode and becomes very seriously harmful to anybody around the campfire area. They should always be kept away from the fire. Even when the bottle is empty, it still has some propane left in it. It should never be disposed in the fire. Large wads of papers are also potentially dangerous. If you do choose to dispose of your paper in the fire, do it carefully. Quite often as the papers burns it will become an ember, which is lifted easily out of the fire from the heat from it. This poses a forest fire danger if it should land farther out from your ring of area that you have cleared around your fire pit. Styrofoam plates; a lot of people like to dispose of these in the fire. It’s something you should not do. As Styrofoam burns, it releases toxic fumes. It’s certainly nothing that you want to breathe, and it is just better for the environment. Any trash, such as this, you want to pack out. You want to pack out what you brought in with you. Bottles, glass bottles, never dispose off those in the fire. Again, paper plates, and plastic, like I said, anything except for paper or cardboard and leftover food, can also be disposed in the fire but nothing else. So if you bring it out pack it back with you.
