How to Lay Out Fabric for Screen Printing

Hi, this is Mark Kneeskern, with Expert Village. And in this clip I'm going to show you how to prepare your surface for screen printing. You'll want to start with a nice hard flat surface, that has enough room that you can organize all your materials and your inks and your squeegee. And you'll also need room to move the screen off to the side in between prints. First you'll want to take a towel and lay it out onto your surface. And tape the corners down, stretching it out nice and tight. And then over the top of that, you'll want to put an old tshirt that you don't care anything about, that's nice and smooth, and tape that down also, nice and stretched out. You don't want any wrinkles in your surface, because that will interrupt you design and create all sorts of havac, and you don't want that. You want it nice and smooth, hard flat surface. Once you get that, you can begin your screen printing, and just keep in mind that any wrinkle that appears, you want to flatten that out or iron it. Just to make sure that you don't have any problems. And that is how you prepare a surface for screen printing.
