How to List Rare Books on the Internet

I’m Molly Mackey with Expert Village. Now we’re going to talk about actually describing your book in your database for loading online. Now we’re going to do a sample listing just the way you would input it into your database for uploading to the internet. This will be a very basic description in the proper format. Always start off with the last name first of the author, then you’re going to follow with the title. If there is any subtitle you want to put those in as well. And the very first thing we’re going to start off with is the publishing date and we can see that here is 1974. So we’ll start off with that and we’ll put the publisher next, which happens to be Scrimshaw Press, it’s quite important to put this information because sometimes there are different editions by different publishers. Okay, next we want to mention what the book is, this is a hardback, so HB is the proper terminology for that and this particular hardback has a dust jacket. If it didn’t we wouldn’t mention it, but it does so we’ll put dust jacket. Now we want to move into condition, this book happens to be very nice, clean and bright and in good shape so I’m going to call it VG, which we learned is very good. Now we also have to grade the dust jacket aside from the hardback so I’m going to put very good for the hardback and the dust jacket seems in pretty good condition as well so I’m going to call that VG, it has one minor flaw. Okay and if it has any photos or anything like that you want to mention those now so I’ll also put color photos. Okay and then next would be your price and this particular book I have set at thirty dollars, whoops and you’re ready to go so you have the information that they would need to make their purchase. This is for a basic description.
