Dust Jacket Flaws on Rare BooksHi, I’m Molly Mackey with Expert Village and now we’re going to talk about dust jackets and their flaws and how you can prepare to mention them in your description. This dust jacket looks pretty good on appearance when just glancing but it’s very important that you actually open up and inspect the dust jacket before listing the book, because sometimes there could be hidden flaws and that could be important to the customer. In this one, see we have a water stain here at the bottom, kind of comes up through here, and so that’s definitely going to be mentioned and you would just mention the size. It goes up I would say about two and a half inches so you would mention that there is a two and a half inch water stain to the bottom edge spine of the dust jacket. Another common flaw in a dust jacket are these little pieces missing. Pieces’ missing doesn’t sound too good, so we call it rubbed or chipped. So something like this, you can say that the DJ is rubbed heavily to the front. If it’s just a small portion you know describe it accordingly.
