What to Do After a Job Interview
Hi, this is Katie Roney with Expert Village. We've been discussing how do conduct an interview. After the candidate's left, this is very important for you not to lose your momentum. You want to immediately follow up with everything you've discussed. If you had action items, if you have information that you needed to relay to them, do it immediately, e-mail them, or send them the proper information. That way they will know that you were actually serious and you were listening to what their concerns were and any questions that they had. Documentation is huge. During the interview, have their resume, write on it, write on it everywhere, how much were they making, what were they doing. Take all of that information and hopefully you will have a computer of some sort, go ahead and get it all into your computer that way it will be at your fingertips at your disposal whenever you needed to go back to it just to review. Also, you want to get in touch with any other of your co-workers, any internal employees. If your interviewing a candidate, but you're not actually going to be the boss, after you've documented, after you've followed up with them, go to the potential supervisor and let them know, I've conducted an interview today for your potential team member let's talk about how I feel about it, let's talk about their experience and let me see if you have any questions or any thoughts on it. You also want to send them of course, the thank you letter, the over emphasized thank you letter, but the always important thank you letter. Hand write it if you can, it's just a little more personal. E-mail is good, everyone is on e-mail, they will respond to e-mail but it's always nice to get something in the mail. So, follow up with them and let them know that you want them.
