Hi, this is Katie Roney on behalf of Expert Village, we are discussing how to conduct an interview. If you are interviewing a candidate that requires a certain skill set, such as a technical skill set, or any type of trade they may have learned, more than likely you're going to have to ask them to basically prove it. Now, it's not so much a test as to see where they are in their skill level. It doesn't have to be uncomfortable if they have a certain skill that is usually tested for during an interview, they're gonna be prepared for it, so you can let them know at the beginning of the interview. Later on, I'll actually get you to perform X, Y, Z for me so I can kind of see how you do it, and it's not so much a test, pass, fail, it's more of an assessment, and it just lets you know whether they're going to be a great fit for the position. And it lets them know where they are in their career, where they are in their level. So you could say to a candidate, "Bill, I know on your resume you have been programming for some time. I'm so interested to know how you met, or this new language that you've learned. Are you comfortable performing that for me, just a little technical assessment for me? That way I can see your level on it? Absolutely! O.K. what we'll do is go into another room and get you set up. I'll leave you alone for a couple of minutes, then I come and you can show me what was done. O.K. Alright, let's go.
