Women's Place in Contact Sports & Roller Derby
What amazed many people and offended quite a few in the early days of roller derby was the fact that women were skating and competing on the same basis as men. I'm Jerry Seltzer former commissioner for the International Roller Derby League for Expert Village. Super stars evolved from roller derby whose names are even known today. Ann Kavello, Joane Weston, Jerry Murray, the original superstar Ivy King in 1935. At a time when women it wasn't considered lady like for women to compete in contact sports. How this is changed today and a lot of it is generally attributable to the early roller derby women.
