How to Hold Roller Derby Tryouts
Hi, I'm Jerry Seltzer commissioner for the International Roller Derby League which ended in 1973 for Expert Village. We used to train skaters for almost a year before they can even begin to skate in the roller derby. Today is quite a bit different, the girls come and try out and they join their own local teams. Most women's roller derby leagues has the same philosophy regarding new skaters. Physique is irrevelant and it doesn't matter if someone hasn't worn skates in years. Leagues hold practice sessions to teach the rules and basic skating techniques and no one actually competes until the team is confident that they do the same with safety. Leagues also encourage players to skate whenever they can in addition to organized practices.
