Hi! Welcome back, this is Brian on behalf of expertvillage.com. Once we have laid the tent out on the ground and over our ground cloth, the next step in assembling it is to put together the rods and give it its shape. As I mentioned previously, this style of tent is called the dome tent, and you will soon see why. The support to hold it up off the ground comes from these rods, made out of fiberglass most often, to give it some flexibility and also allow it to collapse down rather small in size. Depending on the particular design of your tent, there could be as many as 4, 5 or even 6 of these rods to hold up the tent together. Before we actually move on to putting the tent up, you want to assemble them all so that you can quickly slide them into the appropriate place on the tent. You want to lay the rods out once they are completed in the general configuration that the tent is going to assume once you have the tent together. In this case, you’ve got two rods that go over the top of the main sleeping area of the tent to form the domes. I’ve laid them out in X-pattern, like so.
