This card would be way overpowered if it worked the way you're saying. You can't just name any card or type of card that you want, like Elf or Forest or Enchantment or whatever. You can only choose "land" or "non-land" . So if you need more land you can ensure that you get it, or if you have enough land then you can get spells instead.
